Send to KindleI wrote a couple weeks ago about what we can expect from Amazon in 2012. One of the things I mentioned was a Kindle and Kindle Store launch in Brazil. Now it’s looking like that should happen sometime in the next 6 months.
Amazon just hired an executive in Brazil to prepare for the launch. His name is Mauro Widman, and he has the title of “vendor manager” for the Kindle. According to a Publishing Perspectives article, Widman is “an engineer who worked for the past year and a half developing the e-book platform at Livraria Cultura, one of the largest bookstore chains in Brazil.”
After finishing up his training at Amazon headquarters in Seattle in a couple weeks, Widman’s job will be to get Brazilian publishers on board with Amazon.
If you’re interested, you can read more about the situation at Publishing Perspectives.
I just looked for the Brazil domain name extension, and the most widely used is .com.br. The funny thing is that I don’t think Amazon.com owns Amazon.com.br. It’s owned by “Amazon Corporation,” whereas Amazon.com is officially Amazon.com Incorporated. There’s a website there, but it doesn’t have the regular Amazon logo or colors. Hmmm… I just sent an email to Amazon PR asking if Amazon.com owns the domain. We’ll see if I hear back.
