We’ve been reporting for nearly a year about the smartphone that Amazon is allegedly developing, and there’s some new info about it floating around.

Bloomberg reports that

  1. Amazon is working on an iPhone-esque smartphone
  2. The phone will run the Android OS
  3. Foxconn will be manufacturing the phone

Bloomberg’s information comes from “two people with knowledge of the matter.”

The first of the above three points is nothing new, though it’s one of the first times that the information has been attributed to real sources instead of just speculation. The second point makes sense, given that the Kindle Fire runs a customized version of Android. And the third point also makes sense, as Foxconn is one of the big Asian electronics manufacturers and it currently produces the Kindle, iPad, iPhone, PS3, and Xbox 360.

When will the Amazon phone (my money is on “Kindle Flame” for the name of it, by the way) come out? No one knows, but older rumors pegged it coming out at the end of 2012. We’ll see.
