Send to KindleProtective covers for electronics are always way overpriced. The method I use to protect my Kindle 4 and Kindle 3 (Kindle Keyboard) costs less than $1.
I just use padded envelopes (bubble mailer envelopes). The 6″ x 9″ (inside dimensions) size fits both the Kindle 3 and Kindle 4
perfectly. I bought a new one today for my Kindle 4 and it cost exactly $0.95 including tax.
Here’s what they look like:
And here’s a quick video of me talking about using these envelopes as Kindle covers:
Better than paying $35 for a case, eh? I mean, think of all the cheap Kindle ebooks you could buy with that $35!

As a cheap kindle user who hasn’t gotten a case yet and hasn’t mailed anything in years, where can we order these envelopes online?
James, I’ve seen them at the post office, my local supermarket, and Wal-Mart. They’re pretty common.
If you can’t find any near you and need to order them online, here’s a pack of 5 pack on Amazon for $4.79: http://goo.gl/gkRFU
Here’s a single one for $3.99 (and free shipping if you’re an Amazon Prime member): http://goo.gl/0eiEo
Looks like I’m not the only one doing this then! Been storing mine in an ESD bag (which was free) since I got it. It offers a snugger fit too.

Ooooh. Nice! That’s awesome Dean, and thanks for the pic.
Perfect! You have inspired me to cancel my order for a $29.99 zip case from Amazon. That’s at least 3 e-books…
Awesome
Not to mention your Kindle is a lot less likely to get stolen if it looks like an unused envelope! The greatest ideas are the simplest ones.
Innovative ideas…
Guess what I am using for my Kindle touch temporary? I use the courier box. I reckon it is very sturdy. All I need to do is to wrap it up with some nice gifts wrappers!
But might be bulky to carry around. I might as well use your ideas – bubble wrapper for moving around. At home just throw into my courier box.
