After a short-lived experience last July 27th, Amazon’s founder and largest shareholder is once again, the richest man in the world, with a total net worth of more than $90.6 billion.
The 13.5% increase on Amazon stock last Friday added $1.4 billion to Bezos’ net worth, putting him $500 million ahead of Gates.
It has been a strong year for Amazon in 2017. Thanks to Amazon’s aggressive investments such as the acquisition of Whole Foods, record-breaking Prime Day sales, the rapid consumer adoption of the Echo and other Alexa-enabled devices and of course, the incredible growth of the Prime Subscription.
While Bezos is focused on growing its empire, Gates is all about donating his wealth to the charity.
We always hear about Bezos’ plans of taking over the world, but not much about his philanthropic acts. He never even signed the “Giving Pledge” in which hundreds of billionaires, including Gates and Zuckerberg, have committed to share at least half of their wealth to philanthropic causes.
Oh well, let’s see how long Jeff Bezos remains as the Richest Person in the World before Bill Gates reclaims the title once again.
